Middletown Hotel Management Company, Inc., started in 1989 with a Howard Johnson hotel in Middletown, Ohio. Originally founded as Middletown Management by Har S. Bhatnagar, CEO, the company has steadily grown to include multiple properties in Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus.

The Early Years

The company’s roots date back to 1983 when Bhatnagar invested, with a partner, in his first property, the Colonial Motor Lodge in Alpha, Ohio. Over the next several years, he continued to develop and make further investments with partners in other properties such as the Comfort Inn and Super 8 in Middletown, Ohio, all while continuing to work as an engineer at General Electric. He also made individual investments in individual properties such as the Comfort Inn in Sydney, Ohio, continuing to grow his portfolio.

Upon deciding to establish an independent management company in 1989, Bhatnagar brought in his wife, Bela, to serve as Vice President. After years of success with the initial Howard Johnson property, Middletown Management’s portfolio expanded in 1993 with the at-auction purchase of the Holiday Inn in Xenia, Ohio, making it the first purchased property under Middletown Management. After five successful years with Middletown Management, Har Bhatnagar retired from General Electric in 1994 and began working full time for the company. During this same year, Middletown Management purchased the Holiday Inn in Plymouth, Indiana.

An Expanding Market Leader

By 1997, Middletown Management Company was running successfully with a portfolio of three properties. However, Bhatnagar felt the company needed a jolt in order to continue to progress at a rate that would take the company to the next level. Bhatnagar took the company to the next level with new construction development and growth of the portfolio.

New goals for the company were established, mainly to replace the existing three properties with newer properties within the next five years and to continue progressive growth from there. The three properties were gradually sold, and Middletown Management maintained its portfolio by developing and constructing the following properties:

  • Hampton Inn, Fairfield, Ohio – July 1999- sold
  • Holiday Inn Express, Centerville, Ohio – May 2003- sold
  • Hilton Garden Inn, Columbus, Ohio – May 2005
  • Hilton Garden Inn, Beavercreek, Ohio – October 2008
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites, Columbus, Ohio – December 2009
  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Dayton, Ohio – June 2011
  • Centre Park of West Chester/Holiday Inn Cincinnati N/West Chester, West Chester, Ohio – October 2015
  • SpringHill Suites, Beavercreek, Ohio – August 2016
  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites, West Chester, Ohio- February 2018
  • Home2 Suites, Beavercreek, Ohio – September 2019

It was during this time that Middletown Management was renamed as Middletown Hotel Management.

As each of the above hotels were developed and constructed, Middletown Hotel Management was determined to have each hotel supersede the previous hotel in terms of design, guest accommodations, amenities, efficiency, hotel brand standards and employee work environment. This successful strategy has elevated Middletown Hotel Management’s leadership in the hospitality industry with its properties having won such franchise brand awards as:

Despite a sluggish economy and increasingly challenging requirements in the franchise market, Middletown Hotel Management has continued to grow, providing outstanding management for current properties and introducing new ideas and eco-friendly properties.

With most of our new-build projects ranging from 100 rooms (limited service) to 135 rooms (full service), we have developed a reputation for producing and maintaining leading market, outside-the-box properties that revolutionize the guest experience. We anticipate continued growth while never sacrificing our unmatched hotel development and management services.
